The beauty of maintaining the posture of the left hand side of owl to the end of the semesters!!
Woooow! The recurrent story! Just done - the last classroom activities of spring semester, 2018 ( of my 7 classes of Art Appreciation, Diversity Studies, and Sociology). Show Time: competency/problem-based evidential learning. See below- randomly selected 4 projects. Will post more later.
At the beginning of each semester, doubt, curiosity, or any other type of emotions may exist (to "indulge" in a non-native English speaking instructor in the Mid-West setting without extra charge of tuition for such a value-added trait embedded in her "Internationalizing" pedagogy

! ). At the end, everybody learned without being aware of challenging their well-occupied "Comfort Zone".
Most of students are truly toughhhhhh and persiiiiiiiiiistent to get job done!
I enjoyed this semester a lot - so far, maintaining the left side of Owl image

!
Now, get back to the real tasks - grading, feedback...etc, which may lead me to the appearance of the right hand side of the Owl - soon

!

Marcie Bakker Congratulations. Your students are so lucky.
Sun Lasting Marcie, thanks. I can be much luckier than students when having several D2L type of students in your classroom..
Elizabeth Witt It must feel so good to look at these works and realize what a positive impact you are having on people's lives!
Sun Lasting Dear Witt, ideally, as you said. But every semester, a small group of students reject/resist the contents and activities based on their upbringing, in particular, related to religion and social class. From left to right, all are welcome to my classroom.
Elizabeth Witt But the student you reached who talked about the small, predominantly white Christian town she grew up in - you have to feel pretty good about that. I feel pretty humbled by what you do. You change people's lives. There is absolutely nothing I do in the course of a day that even remotely competes with that.
Sun Lasting Elizabeth Witt , wow, you read into the details of Heather's project! I still have more than a hundred projects waiting for grading.
Elizabeth Witt Sun Lasting I read all of them as much as I could see on my tiny machine!
Sun Lasting Elizabeth Witt You are a voracious reader!
Elizabeth Witt I try. LOL I appreciate that they let you share and that you shared with us. That is a privilege that deserves respect and attention.

Facilitating/teaching Diversity Studies can be a risky business - under such a climate as a "colored - not colorful, person beyond black-n-white"... One might need to walk on eggshell without breaking it or trudge through landmines without being shredded into pieces - in some rugged terrains

! It can be symbiotically exciting and stressful. There are different types of capitals benefiting people's life: political capitals, social capitals, emotional capitals, cultural capitals...etc.
I perceive the significance of "Educational Capitals" - hopefully existing somewhere...?
