Song for tonight.
Taiwan Folk Song:  A broken-heart flower

A Heart-Broken Flower.
Lyricist:
Composer:
Sung: Xena LCH #123

Jan 25 (Sn), 2015. Solidarity Forever of 100 year ago...and NOW.

Solidarity Forever - Written 100 Years Ago. Sound ironic, doesn't it
- " You, Union Thugs/Thinkers ! " ?? )!
"  Solidarity Forever!
   Solidarity Forever!
   Solidarity Forever!
It is we who plowed the prairies, built the cities where they trade.
Dug the mines and built the workshops, endless miles of railway laid.
Now we stand outcast and starving ’mid the wonders we have made..."

Sun Lasting Just read and sent feedback to learners for the online assignments regarding Race, Class...etc.- the Construction of Human Identity.

One thing was amazing - some students (about 15%) analyzed and critiqued 1676 Bacon Rebellion- quite objective from different perspectives (such as structural-functional, and social conflict aspects about law, order/chaos, conflicting interests/power and the stratified society).

--------------

只記得淚雙垂 一路上thinking of the weird 2 point conversion...

The fumble of the onside kick...
The horrific last 4 minutes, on the Jan 18th.

不知 why 16-0 turned into 28-22 at the very end?
 Seahawks were not Packed.
------------------------------------
Original lyrics:

Jan 14 (W), 2015. A Serendipitous Diary.

January 11 at 6:19pm · Edited ·

What a day!! After Packers' O.K. Game at the Lamabeau field, then I found my old car moody, not letting me start. Fine! My colleague + officemate professor Kathy (and Tim) gave me a ride to school (they dropped me off for another activity), and then I found my office key still immersing the post-game joy at the apartment, not with me.
So I was wondering/wandering around the main campus. Lucky me, finally I found A Room of My Own working on student day 1 tech- survey name tags/sheets and double-checking everything...now - to avoid being an imperfect perfectionist.

Thanks, Marcie, Rod and DaisyMae: repost. Here is a hypothetical fun topic and question for today - "Are you ready to be fired by CVTC or by the Taxpayers? - Don't worry - have you ever been qualified as an edu- Martyr?? :D!" - Issues of "Good Tools Make Good workers who make good work".

The following happy monologues are only focusing on Hardware Issues. For the software part - tightly stay tuned.
---------------
I need to confess that teaching at a 2-year college is the greatest privilege that I have ever had in my last 20 years' teaching career at 2 high schools, 2 universities, and two 2-year colleges (both in Taiwan and the US.)  The 2-year college makes me rethink how entitled, advantaged, and lucky I was, and will be :)!
--------------
Lucky I - have 6 classes for spring 2015 (Some faculty got 7, depending on the delivery format configuration). From next semester, seemingly every faculty will teach 7 classes at least 3 preps for 21 credits. Yep, teaching is our Supreme, God-like Tasks - enjoy it ! Welcome more educators to answer this Great Calling - join us !!

One condition should also be added to your repertoire if you decide to join us - If President's exciting idea of the first 2 year free edu policy became reality, you might need to teach 8, 9, or 10 classes with the similar compensation, since teaching is not really a ''blue collar" job - or shamelessly speaking, a de-unionized job?? But be grateful, before all courses are taken by the Digital Instructors and the Cyberic Professors, or Mooced for money-saving (and the rest of invisible edu-tech-business agenda) instead of doing better education!!! And I would like to quote my colleague Professor LeCount's edu-joke (don't worry, I won't intend to make him a martyr) that we used to have 10 faculty members sharing one COZY office (I was there). He named this elbow-to-elbow closeness as - us "ZooMates" ! My current office is shared by 9 faculty and adjuncts. My neighbor office is shared by 20!! (Note, I am not trying to make the above episode too exciting, but I have to say when I was a TA teaching art, I Occupied an office which was no bigger nor smaller than my current whole office's size - surely, in a 4-year university).

But don't get me wrong - Sharing is good. Who doesn't like it??

In addition, we all cave in the basement - underground and safe, like _____ (fill-in-the-blank) and see who can get the nice answers :)! Furthermore, a best friend custodian told me - "don't worry, here was Radon tested" - nice of him.

As for students' sake, not to mention we don't have any basketball/football fields, field and track, and the rest of sport facility and utility, nor Auditoriums, Dormitories, recreational centers, student centers, and the rest that you can imagine from a prison or concentration camp (these two terms need some kind of sociological imagination) ! However, we do have a humongous cafeteria from a well-fraternized Big Food industry that an organization of Michigan state filed a lawsuit against its employee wage abuse, and a huge cosmologist saloon for many functions via tearing down a used-to-be child care center for students and staff (if I were not wrong about this info).

The most magnificent area is our library which is a multi-functional spot for assisting learning, career-life counseling, training,  diversity...and the rest of miscellaneous jobs and tasks...

The 2-year colleges manifest the most economically successful story, so beautifully parsimonious, and so invisible ! It is a great place to meditate, to be ascetic, and - to be a real Macro and Micro Economist !

It is a tremendous way to save Taxpayers' money, and benefit our capitalistic businesses and industries. But I am quite happy to take aspirins and any other pain-killers (don't worry, no steroids to enhance my mood and muscles) with proper doses on daily basis to make me flamboyant, energetic, and look nice on campus!

Not all the knowledge workers are created equally. And the other scenario may need to put into the big picture as well - all the proprietary/for-profit edu-businesses and edu-capitalists has been stirred up edu-monetary-emotionally toward President and 2-year colleges.

In short, hopefully, the attraction to the politicians, taxpayers, and the rest of the stakeholders is not just because of our simplicity, innocence, and frugality.... Stay tuned.

Sun Lasting Switching gears from the poly-ticks to an interesting Folklore - "The Eight" Show - an important motif of Painter Mr. Te-Cheng Chuang.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoKMGmLpJAM

One of the legends says that once upon a time, there were 8 dire poor individuals who became gangsters to make a living and were caught by the authority. When an important festival came, 2 of their prison guards sympathized the 8 and let them go home to meet their folks. The eight promised the guards to return for their jail time.

But for what so ever reasons, the eight could not keep the promise to serve their time. So the 2 guards took their own lives for the negligence of their duties.

Later the eight realized that the 2 guards died for them, all the Eight came back to the prison and all committed suicide to redeem their guilt. According to the legend, the Two Guards and the Eight all became local gods.

Isn't reading folklore safer and healthier than watching political shows?
