April 24 (M) 2017 What are the basic woman/human rights of a first lady?

Crystal LC Huang shared Global-Awakening's video.
5 hrs ·

Is the current first lady in suffering (mental, physical, or both), repeating her predecessors' (his Ex-es, whether in the marriage or outside the marriage) stories?
Hard to tell from these captured nuances,
but something might not escape from your eyes ?

Crystal LC Huang Not to mention being a first lady - most of wives in the world can feel such a treatment.

Crystal LC Huang For the video part, I have no comments on other family's affairs.
But, these are public figures. Whether she was a model, star, or from a formerly, socialist country before, she is a woman (yes, does he forget that "woman's rights are part of human rights - in a rich family and an affluent country"? Furthermore, she is a mother and wife now. Doesn't she deserve a basic or proper treatment (according to the captured images in real time) from her husband and family members?

Crystal LC Huang Surely, human beings need to make a living, but are there other alternative ways to do it, instead of pursuing one's benefits, profits, pleasure, or convenience by exploiting other beings' lives in pains and suffering? Yes, even human enslaving in the mass scale of the contemporary societies is still going on...

Indeed, people have no right to toss opinions on how one amuses oneself. Just a minor episode to share: more than an heir of the current US dynasty, had good times from the big game fun (can/range hunting on tigers, cheetahs, lions, giraffes, elephants and rest of large animals for entertaining. Week 13. Topic: 6 major Social Institutions - the second one: Politics and Government. We discussed varieties of political ideologies, and political socialization processes.
This semester, a "peculiar" smoke-screen Populism is in the lime-light. Some students expressed their admiration for the current president. One was based on the religious preference, and the other, gender was a key concern. Here a a Tech College... just do the best one can if one can - including my potential biases.

Crystal LC Huang Family is the base of the rest of social institutions. Take a look at these first couples. Perhaps, the current first lady is much more"politically" independent than the rest? Thanks to Laurie Anne Hughes's photo.

April 20 (TH), 2017 Languages, Privileges, and Honor

Crystal LC Huang
April 18 at 10:42pm ·

Will this world be better and safer - when one learns to respect, or appreciate people (not just those political/international "dignitaries") who speak a second or third language to communicate with you - isn't it a privilege? Try to communicate with others via your second or third language when appropriate -isn't it an honor? - Xena LCH.

Crystal LC Huang Each language, in particular, one's mother tongue, is a whole package of a person and culture's identity and wisdom, strongly tied to emotion and the outlook of the world- very dear to the heart and soul.

Crystal LC Huang Doesn't history reveal this reality: for many benevolences of a dominant language, there are/were exploitations, tragedies, repressions, if not dignity-destruction onto the oppressed, hidden behind it?

Al Poirier Being a language illiterate, I have always envied those, like my father, who were bi- or multi-lingual. Unfortunately, I was born without the language learning gene. Tried Latin, French, Spanish and German, all without success!

Crystal LC Huang @Al, good morning! I saw multi-lingual genes, just see how the environment reinforces them?
There are a couple of theories depicting how several generations of Americans, in particular, the youth (surely, they later became adults ) were deprived the "formal" (or serious) linguistic/foreign learning opportunities.

Al Poirier Crystal, I had the opportunities, just not the aptitude!
Unlike · Reply · 1 · Yesterday at 7:40am

Crystal LC Huang Al, might it be going beyond the individual level to look into the whole linguistic learning environment and the policy makers' ideologies in different timeframes, in particular, when a society is big and affluent (such as a superpower)? Does America's geo-political location also contribute to this linguistic-learning suppression?

April 16 (Sn), 2017 Song for tonight

Crystal LC Huang

23 hrs ·

Happy Easter!

Song for today: A well-known Japanese song during 50s and 60s in Taiwan. Another colonial "legacy" happened to my native country via popular culture.

Nostalgic Apple Blossoms)
Singer: Xena LCH# 121

(Skipped)

Crystal LC Huang Today is my mother's memorial day (based on the Lunar Calendar). She passed away in 2005. I recorded the above elegant song to commemorate her love to us ten siblings. Usually, I observe my mother's memorial day on April 27 (the Gregorian calendar), while most of my folks honor and remember her according to the Lunar Calendar. Yes, even the calendar deserves the respect of Diversity.

April 15 (Sa), 2017 Two songs for tonight: the love "legacies" of the Colonialism/Imperialism

Crystal LC Huang
54 mins

2 songs for tonight: the "legacies" of Colonialism/Imperialism.
It is about the Powerful vs. not-so-Powerful languages: the most important culture-identity of human beings. Now 2 more:

The first one is a Taiwan regional folk song with a Colonial theme. I called it "Taiwan's Madam Butterfly". Women, whether in a militant country or an invaded nation, the destiny seemed similar, happening not long ago.

Melancholic Nostagia of a Colonial Love Story. By Xena LCH#84

Crystal LC Huang A brief background of the song in the colonial era happening in Taiwan:
" Anping recollected song 安平追想曲 " (Taiwan regional song : An-pîng Tui-sióng-khik) was composed by Hsu Sher and written by the famous Taiwanese lyricist Chen Da-ru in 1951.

The song describes a sorrowful love story of a comprador businessman's daughter in Taiwan, who had a tabooed love affair with a Dutch physician, and then, gave birth to a blonde in Anping, Tainan, a major city of the south part of Taiwan during the Dutch-colonial period of time in the 17th century.

The blonde grew up encountering with the similar fate of her mother, betrayed by her lover, another foreigner.

There are two time-frames regarding the origin of Anping recollected song: One is during the 17th century, the Dutch colonial period in Taiwan. The other one is based on a 19th century's legend.

The inter-racial, inter-ethnic love affairs and the offspring they brought to this world during the traditionally colonial society was unusual and caused controversies and pains to the protagonists of the weak.

Lyricist:
Composer:許石
Singer: Dr. Xena LCH

Singer: Dr. Xena LCH

The above one is a well-known folk song in Jia-yi (嘉義), south part of Taiwan. The song expressed the Japanese's brutality and colonial hegemony on Taiwanese people. The politic-economic oppression and cultural suppression reached the intolerable condition, the local people, in particular, 諸羅 (嘉義) areas, organized to fight back and were brutally massacred by Japanese military establishment.
Birds in the lyrics symbolized the oppressed, whose nests were destroyed and offspring were killed by the brutal intruders and oppressors. People bravely fought against the colonial domination and they sacrificed for their love for freedom and justice.

Lyrics:
