My points of view:
Some WASP "settlers" ( immigrants?) might be admired for their ingenuity and capacity to find/invade/occupy the "free lands" and control the "free or cheap labors" - the two most important capitals to create a "new community with collective consciousness". But, not all the early settlers/immigrants adopted this mode, such as the Amish people who were settlers/immigrants in the early US history, yet, they did not shape much about the "American culture, institutions, historical development, and identity". Why?
What substantiated the early "settlers'" founding America successfully if lands were not "found" free, and "slaves" were as expensive as the smart, hard-working WASPs who smelled less like the Social Darwinist colonial masters, meanwhile, the laws, the rights were written by the WASPs, of the WASPs, and for the WASPs?
So what are the differences between the "early settlers" vs the "early immigrants", such as WASP "Settlers" vs, Irish-Italian "Immigrants"? or "WASP" Settlers" vs. "Amish" Settlers?
What if the early Native Indians were Settlers from other continent? They settled down in America, shaped their cultural identity, kept the Natural environment intact without artificial consumption, air-water pollution, endangered species, lost habitats, and dysfunctional institutions, since no other "Settlers" resided on this land before them (Surely, they were "noble savages", "lack of" technological ingenuity, monetary hunger, and competitive appetites). Later "WASP Settlers" abhorred the early "Settlers'" constructed reality, and then systematically engaged in the world largest magnitude of genocide in order to create their own identity?

Non-advisement...Though this is a long boring post which violates facebook's posting values, norms and benefits, I am still delighted to share with you what I have been busy with, in addition to my 21 credit (7 classes, f2f Introductory Sociology, f2f, online, and hybrid Diversity Studies, and f2f Contemporary American Society ) teaching and personal research interests during this fall semester of 2015 and have fun!
Fb asked me "What's on my mind"? - free "free-lancing"?
At this moment, I am editing my course description. This curriculum design is about 95% done so far via the project design software - "WIDS, Worldwide Instructional Design System" to add one more flavor to the Liberal Arts Associate Degree program.
The course title was just changed from Introduction to Visual Arts into Art Appreciation: Here is my course description. Does it look "Grandiose" enough !??
Course Description:
Art Appreciation is to study visual arts as the transmitters of cultural, humanistic, and aesthetic values from the remote past to present across different cultures. It will help learners develop visual literacy, analytical skills, problem solving abilities, and lifelong appreciation for the visual arts. Students will learn to question the nature of art and its relevance to daily life and will be encouraged to integrate art history, design principles, and aesthetic criticism in understanding artworks within cultural and historical contexts. Students also obtain knowledge of art-making , the material processes, and being aware of controversial issues in the art world.
Well, the rest of Competencies, Course Design, Teaching-Learning Plans, Performance Assessment Tasks, Learning Activities, Assessment Activities, Assessment Strategies, Teaching Notes, Teaching Materials, Project Directions, Scoring Methods and linked Core Abilities... mmm, yes, part of the design package - almost done at this juncture.
Another job opportunity to my fb friends: maybe, this can be an alternative way to make a living - by teaching WIDS?? (Shamelessly speaking, in fact, I was quite in love with the previous version of WIDS in designing Social Problems and American Government two online courses and believe it or not...I was a QM reviewer, and one of my majors is relating to this field: Curriculum and Instructions, focusing on Learning Technologies :D !!)

Crystal Huang In my cozy tiny office (yes, an Educational setting!!) shared by 8 faculty members in a cutely-purely open ambient, such as when your stomach is grouching for cookies, the rest of instructors can hear it, or you only have a piece of chocolate and eat it all by yourself without sharing; haha, everybody knows it. Most importantly, when you swirl your office-chair to look for a student's paper, always with compassion added with a little bit of caution, then you won't bump into your file cabinets, making horrendous noises to scare your dear office mates to death! One of my office mates makes more apologies than I do, and we all are very forgiving. Extra sound track actually stirs up our high teaching energy.
The following episode, I need to ethically white-out regarding this office-mate. No fault of his/her own...
The most unusual (and to me, need to more thoughtful than unbearable) conditionition is that nothing you can do about it except putting in more understanding and sympathy and try to pick up some problem solving skills. One of the office mates carries super strong body order. This colleague needs to turn on a big fan under his/her desk to blow constantly. My desk is right behind the direction of fan's blow. Stay 3 seconds in the office is like sitting on the needle poking chair. I learn to hold my breadth for a few seconds and find somewhere to go through the common office hours.
No one ever says anything. Thus I keep my mouth shut and try to re-set my office hours not to be the same with his/hers. But still we have overlapping hours, then I hold my breadth and go behind the main office and stay in the tiny conference room to do course work. Problems seem solved.
But the condition is that my students of Contemporary American Society complain the "awful" smell of the classroom when they come in. They suspect the dirty old carpet, molds, urine...and so on vivid descriptions, and ask me how to do about it....I cannot say anything, because my office-mate uses this classroom right before mine tree times a week. Again, a big fan stands in the classroom. The same strong smell that I sense it even before I come into my office or this classroom.

Crystal Huang In my cozy tiny office (yes, an Educational setting!!) shared by 8 faculty members in a cutely-purely open ambient, such as when your stomach is grouching for cookies, the rest of instructors can hear it, or you only have a piece of chocolate and eat it all by yourself without sharing; haha, everybody knows it. Most importantly, when you swirl your office-chair to look for a student's paper, always with compassion added with a little bit of caution, then you won't bump into your file cabinets, making horrendous noises to scare your dear office mates to death! One of my office mates makes more apologies than I do, and we all are very forgiving. Extra sound track actually stirs up our high teaching energy.
The following episode, I need to ethically white-out regarding this office-mate. No fault of his/her own...
The most unusual (and to me, need to more thoughtful than unbearable) conditionition is that nothing you can do about it except putting in more understanding and sympathy and try to pick up some problem solving skills. One of the office mates carries super strong body order. This colleague needs to turn on a big fan under his/her desk to blow constantly. My desk is right behind the direction of fan's blow. Stay 3 seconds in the office is like sitting on the needle poking chair. I learn to hold my breadth for a few seconds and find somewhere to go through the common office hours.
No one ever says anything. Thus I keep my mouth shut and try to re-set my office hours not to be the same with his/hers. But still we have overlapping hours, then I hold my breadth and go behind the main office and stay in the tiny conference room to do course work. Problems seem solved.
But the condition is that my students of Contemporary American Society complain the "awful" smell of the classroom when they come in. They suspect the dirty old carpet, molds, urine...and so on vivid descriptions, and ask me how to do about it....I cannot say anything, because my office-mate uses this classroom right before mine tree times a week. Again, a big fan stands in the classroom. The same strong smell that I sense it even before I come into my office or this classroom.
