Crystal Huang Internationally speaking, which country will resist the temptations of this big treasure island's lure, the world largest sweet fly-trap, not to mention Taiwan (the true Catalyst of the early stage of China's economic development).
Those capitalistic Big Fat cats (食髓不知畏) along with the no-backbone bureaucrats and oscillators/opportunists in Taiwan have been trapped by this deadly decoy for a while - no fear of the requiem - this could be a major cause of the students' protests.
Surely, the "adult world" always concern "the scene" behind students' organizations - but this is another story. Divide-and-Conquer is popular and cheap strategy as well. Skip here. Now go to the news:

The Burning Blood (熱血歌) was published in 1937 - the inception of World War II in the Far Eastern Asia, triggered by Japan in the Northeast part of China/Manchuria.
The song writer was Mr. 黄自 (a great composer) and lyrics by Mr. 吴崇海. The song was influential during China's (either the Nationalists or/and the Communists ?!) fighting against Japan's invasion right before World War II.

I was born and grew up in Taipei, Taiwan and speak Taiwanese - like my ancestors several generations before me. Mandarin has been mandatory beginning in elementary schools, since the Nationalist government retreated to Taiwan after Communist China won the civil war in 1949. Though the older generation(s) in Taiwan did/do speak Japanese (occupied by Japan during 1895-1945).

Crystal Huang Perhaps, "Democratic Progress" means different things to different groups of people. In short, not many Nations have the GUTS to exercise David vs. Goliath''s type of battle. From my understanding, most people in Taiwan have the tremendous GUTS, while both the international and domestic environments have been embedded with lots of histori-political intriguing dynamics - either being wimpy/ calculative, or entangled with complex vacillating psychic ?
The global and interior Chess Game moves the Pawns less effortfully played by behind the screen. Domestically speaking, the socio-politically privileged and BIG business-financially advantaged few in Taiwan can be (surely have the right, just as those disadvantaged, and underprivileged's, to be) indecisive, or to be 西瓜倚大片/騙 ??!!. The Referendum is cumbersome, if not troublesome...But no one shall be deprived the Right to HOPE, and most importantly the Will to ACT-collectively, to choose where they could find and build what they believe in pursuing life, liberty and happiness!
These are social facts repeatedly proven in history that nothing seems possible until it is done. Yes, there are many hurdles ahead, but history reveals that social change, though slowly but surely, is inevitable toward better conditions.
