Can you believe - a person lives an uneasy life for ending up with 5 majors and 4 minors plus the whole life endeavors in the "dubious-autonomous" academic pursuits, just barely to pay bills, take care of a dozen best animal friends in the US. and folks in her native country :)! ?

What a GREAT Ambition - "not to save a nation, nor the world!"

Since last July of 2015, I have been preparing for my new course which is one of my majors - studio art and art education. The course curriculum and assessment - Introduction to visual arts (which I prefer, but, could be renamed as Art Appreciation) is going through approving processes. This course will be available in the coming Fall of 2016.

"You got to be shallow," one friend joked to me, "Jackie of several trades - good for nothing!"

I answered reluctantly, - " Oh, well, raising one child is pretty much equivalent to mastering one trade. Just think of time, money, energy, and the rest of material and cultural capitals needed to nurture a proper human being. I was supposed to have a dozen (either children OR trades), and I ended up having none. Indeed, I am a good candidate for being a shallower."

I meant - to raise a good human being is the most delicate, wonderful, expensive, difficult (glad Renee pointed it out, see below) and the highest artform on this planet, which, I may lack of proper resources and am - just incapable of taking on these gods' tasks!

Friend smiled, " You might have created a  mixed blessing. You eliminated the potential to create a bunch of future privileged guys!. Keep in mind, the adoption agencies would like to hear positive and alternative opinions."

And probably the most difficult task on the planet. I only have my babies which are cats and a dog. My husband and I made this decision together. Our energy is used greatly to assist in education and motivating others to be the best they can be.

Xena Crystal Huang Renee, I agree! Raising children is most important and challenging task on this planet. Honestly speaking, being an educator for social science in the US. is a tremendously tough job to me, but I think, compared to raising a child, I decided to take the "less difficult" route !

Renee Smith A great ambition! Have no regrets!

Martha Wallen Who knows? Maybe you needed all those majors. I don't have quite that many. Maybe a few more would have been useful. I've never used my English major, but it may be my favorite one. And good for you for caring for so many animal friends. Good luck preparing for your new course in Art Appreciation. That sounds like fun.

Most people appreciate Apple's providing convenience, supporting the stock market, maybe TPP, and the rest of good things nicely program our life.

Just read some funny posts. Might be true or not: how people got eye cancers for overexposing to the cellphone, or went into severe depression, schizophrenia, OCD. PTSD...etc. due to losing their iphone. and those "green-eye for justice" people who dug out how Tim Cook hid $60 billion dollars overseas to shy away taxes....so on so forth.

Behind those wonderful delights, are the well-told stories. Here is an old example of global "Collaboration" - nothing to do with hegemony : See, Apple's cheap-slave concentration camp in "c"hina Foxconn. These repeated scenarios in "the Rising Sun" were replicated from the 2nd wave of "globalization" happening in Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan (my female siblings were part of that story)- the 4 Asian "little" dragons. The 4th Wave is emerging....

Though I don't teach history which is one of my most favorite fields and strengths, I am now facilitating sociology, diversity studies, and the coming up introduction to visual arts heavily depending on the basic understanding of American History/World History.

I innocently talked to other judges about my dream ( in particular, the high-school-teacher-to be) regarding how to ground up - the younger the better - facilitating the young to love and enjoy reading, talking and thinking about history (the authentic type - people's history), philosophy, art, music, and literature...( I honestly love STEMSS more than STEM, even though, Technology is part of my majors).

A friend just teased, "Yes, but, these subjects 'make no money, in particular, for those youngsters from the disadvantaged families'! - you are daydreaming."

" Well, what else can you say? Instead of glorying the super-capitalism, why not just let's vote for Trump to be our Messiah smile emoticon!"

Stereotypically speaking, even in the 21st Cent, some people still deem disciplines like art, music, literature, "luxurious" sports, philosophy, history, sociology, political science/law...etc. being mostly affordable to the middle and upper class, or the affluent societies - yes, for the Leisure Class to "kill-mental-time" !

Coincidentally, not precisely, from my glancing over this Big event, all the young scientists, almost all are Caucasians from middle, middle upper or upper class by the demeanor and language they expressed.

"See I told you so, where is our future leisure class in the making?"

"Ohhh, well, -waiting for the elitist supermen to put the pyramid up side down!"

Xena Crystal Huang Relating to a macro level, one event I would like to share was that last time I took a bereavement leave to go back to Taipei, and on the airplane, within the state, the flight-magazine had a section to advertise Wisconsin (WI). Surely the head of the WI proudly bragged something about the glorious time of WI - the cows, cheeses, Packers, manufacturing industries, the beloved Harvey Davidsons, and the booming business highlighted by several rich CEOs of Wisconsin.

Then, I anxiously kept on reading and searching. I worried what a "great image of WI" carved on this magazine read by many people who could afford to travel via flights to read such an "excellent" portraiture of Wisconsin. I eagerly and gingerly looked for any messages in this article, hopefully, to discover the essential Wisconsin "Ideals" beyond all of the above-mentioned "nice things" regarding this state.

To my great relax, finally I found some words about UW-System ( my uncouth, "snobby or elitist" taste of a specific aesthetic value :)!). Among them, fortunately and unfortunately, "creating the entry-level workers" of the 2-year colleges was highlighted!!! Don't get me wrong - indeed, feeding stomach is more important than burning books.- LCH. So, welcome to visit Wisconsin...

March 13 (Sn), 2016. How to document publicly about the expensive hunting game for the rich coward and lousy hunters?

Xena Crystal Huang shared Four Corners's video.
13 mins ·

Whether the cheaper can-hunting or the luxurious game hunting, here is a vivid invitation if you have 15,000 euro per hunt to have fun and learn how to document the glorious deed.

Xena Crystal Huang
Personally, I have no right or obligation to judge other people's plan/fun of life.  I do regard hunting and gathering was part of human evolution based on necessity. If people reminisce the "fun"of the past or want to echo the wild call of the genes, while don't know how to spend the fortune (earned or inherited?), then, here is a nice solution: why not jump into the CAN or CORNERED FENCES and be like a real MALE/FEMALE human being or a modern Gladiator - yes, put down your gun and fight with your hands and the big brain against the lions- what else can be more exciting and worthy of any bit of the big money you happily spend ??!!!

Then the medical team or the morgue will help you spend your fortune wisely. Won't this benefit South Africa's business more than anything else?

March 11 at 6:00pm ·

Thousands of tourists travel to South Africa every year to go game hunting. It's big business and every animal has a price. But the hunting doesn't take place in the wild. Around 70 per cent of wild animals live in vast private domains which are fenced off, leaving the animals little chance of escape.

Xena Crystal Huang What are the differences between Can hunt and Cornered/Fenced hunt? Aren't they quite similar - just one is for not so rich and the other one for the rich with equal cowardice/wimpiness, who cannot hunt nor know how to spend their earned/inherited fortune? Aren't there other businesses that South Africans can make a profit other than using animals' "Designed" death as an attraction?

March 13 (Sn), 2016. Military, Socio-economic status, and Myth - 2 military women's polarized ideologies.

Re-post. (I accidentally deleted it).

Two women with different take-on regarding military.

One who is a woman of ability, supports the conservative establishment in the name of "cornered Patriotism" hidden under unawareness of life predicaments- taking "fate" for granted, not to question the dominant ideology that shaped her fateful destiny.
The other one was in the same condition, luckily, having better opportunities than the former to see through social reality.

(Note, Cornered Patriotism, here, is defined as one's life chance, constructed or compressed into minimalism which refers to opportunities cornered into meager choices. It is illusory with accolades deemed as patriotic acts based on "Autonomous Decision", in reality, for surviving. The lack of information/opportunity, or misinformation typically leads to the unawareness, helpless, or hopeless of the social structural mechanism - an example of False Consciousness.)

Just browsed Kathy McConaghie's post. thanks.
For many people, that is one of the "great" hidden designed- the meager life chances to choose from for surviving, unless you were Prince Harry, or the son or daughter of the Starry generals' offspring to carry on the family business. Those who are not the Royal, nor part of starry leaders' family members, I have a poster on my blog rendering such a topic.

Slogans and nice words cannot feed the stomach, and surely, under the rhetorical "Patriotism", some found "comfort" and glory even worthy of being the gunpowder. I was part of that story: to be or not to be, is the question of - survival, perhaps, plus the indoctrinated patriotism, even though, ones love their given national-identity. Ideological debates, who has the luxury? - maybe from the limousine liberal's perspective - my uncouth bias.

Kathy McConaghie Yes, I agree. As a lifelong soldier's daughter, I agree. He chose the Army rather than jail in 1935 and it was the making of him and of our family. My parents were dirt poor during the Great Depression. I am frankly glad Daddy did not live to see what has happened to my country and what we have done to the world.

March 10 (Th), 2016. What are the potential consequences when people don’t “Marry Well”? - Sex and power structure: a snapshot of 近代性關係史

Why do most smart parents-grandparents care about “what” you fall in love with and “whom” you "should" marry to (yes, reminds you of the movie Notebook based on a true story)?

Friends and folks shared an article, tiled "Circle" that inspired me to organize a poster attached at the bottom.

Note, some simplified words were changed into the traditional - LCH

History shows that oligarchy tends to be spoiled by corruption, and tyranny in monarchy ruined by lack of virtue, just as ochlocracy ended into tyranny for its rule of passion over reason in mobcracy. Regarding the grand scale transformation of society in France, the demands for change were formulated in terms of Enlightenment ideals and contributed to the convocation of the Estates-General in May 1789. In the first year of the Revolution the Third Estate took control and assaulted on the Bastille. The passage of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen and a women's march on Versailles forced the royal court back to Paris. French historian François Aulard comments on the Revolution which consisted in the suppression of the Feudal System to emancipate individuals with greater division of landed property (so as Mao's great idealism in grabbing the rich Peter's to the poor Paul turned into a bloody turmoil which transferred the land ownership of the rich feudal and aristocratic classes to the politburos with the Absolute Power). It abolished the privileges of noble birth, and established equality... "The French Revolution differed from other revolutions in being not merely national, for it aimed at benefiting all humanity."

There are many legacies and messes left by Mao's. The above "Circle of Marriage-Affinity among the privileged by birth, knowledge-monopolizers, and the powerful politburos " permeating in the officialdom-industrial-academic complex could be a major one?
