Sept 13 (Sn), 2020 From the Animated version to movies: Money conquers everything, particularly, MORALITY

Krystal Xena LC Huang

From cartoons to movies.
What is happening now between two "Renowned" states: Minnesota and Wisconsin...

Krystal Xena LC Huang (罔市黃)
I had a couple of short articles regarding the business-world adores the capitalistic spirit, kowtowing to the money poured by the totalitarian regime to silence the repression on Hong Kong last year, and the maltreatment to Liners' quarterback Collin Kaepernick:

A previous blog during the Kneeling event, posted on Nov 26, 2019:

Recalling early October, NBA said it was “regrettable” regarding Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey's tweet in supporting Hong Kong anti-government protesters. The rapid fallout sparkled China's "boycott" on the US business and damaged the BIG money/advertisements sponsored by whom has the BIG voices and the purchasing power ... Money tall$$$$ks! NBA and NFL, reacted $-Wisely-$, like doppelgänger !!!

The only two Homo Sapiens' true voices heard recently: One is for the racial justice, while the other one, for human rights justice. Interestingly speaking, both came from sportspeople (not the VEEER$$$Y IN$TELL$IGENT type, though...)

More details:
A previous blog during the Kneeling event, posted on Nov 26, 2019:

This has been taken for granted, nothing phenomenal:
Spectators are nagging a few athletes on their Brainy actions while beholding the behind-the-screen Corporate Inc.'s hoarding big Intriguing money "invisibly".

罔市黃 (new pen name of Xena Crystal LC Huang)
Reminds me of an event:
Once upon a time, I stayed, in fact, in the Mu-lan Village/ Camp (in the north part of Taipei) for 6-month boot-camp training - during a national crisis right after I graduated from NTU.
Later I became a retired Captain after 8 years' service.

And then, attending graduate school in Taipei. I got opportunities to work at the Congress of Taiwan, the Executive Yuan, and a news reporter, as well as other minor positions before a scholarship, pushed me to Wisconsin to study Sociology (social psychology). 反正在台, 貧無立錐之地, 標準的無殼蝸牛, 放生海外也無妨耶...

The other one is a fluffy, light writing published by the Dunn County News in 1998 when the cartoon version of Mu-lan was released. I am checking my folder now.

I just found that "fluffy" writing. Posted as a Note. See above, if interested.

Sept. 10 (Th) 2020 Is it worthy or not... a long tread on fb

Krystal Xena LC Huang
These days I have used a quota of money for "Patriotic Consumptions" online. I also try to "Diversify" my patronage to different companies (not just AMAZON ONLY!)
Then several items I got were terrible junks, different from the Shiny images in their advertisements from THIS specific country. I also noticed several "middle-men" or sub-distributors straddling between them on the chopping boards...

In Taiwan, most people avoid the products or totally reject to buy from THIS big country, while in the US, is inundated by these junky things everywhere, except those high-end, customized, and personalized superstores, tailored for the upper-middle and upper classes.
There are reasons for the low-quality production: the low-paid workers and part of the low-income consumers both in the producting and consuming lines, in addition to many macroscope of globalizational problems and world stratification big issues. As this world's biggest product distributor's slogan says "BUY MORE, PAY LESS" - never enduring any price fluctuation for several DECADES, how come?
Tell me Who Are Those that benefit (profiteering) from these mass productions and transactions? How and Why?

Krystal Xena LC Huang

Found an old poster with a little bit of relevance to the above post:

Bradley Pliam
I like the question that is raised here. Each generation should find a balance between giving and taking. There is so much energy for protest and reconfiguring society, but at the end of the day, each generation must both provide for the ones coming after, and take care of the one that came before. This is not just nice idealism, it is a critical block in the foundation of progress and human dignity.

Krystal Xena LC Huang
Hi, Bradley,  ideally, each generation finds balanced in giving and taking. Life is like a long relay race, each generation passing on the baton to the next one. The stronger racers not only can make up not so strong ones but also accumulate credits for the whole team. Generational passing on the positive or negative resources (both visible and invisible ), a jargon for it is "Cultural Capital". See the attached.

Krystal Xena LC Huang
Here is another worksheet (of my soc class) to see meritocracy which means an individual's success is based on personal efforts regardless of whether the playing field of the starting ground is leveled or not. Each unit is passed on from the last generation. The top line is the so-called "accomplished or reached the socially-expected goal" This is a simplified notion that some people (at the left-hand side might not run as long as those at the right-hand side to reach the goal due to the resources, passed-on, and chances...etc. inherited from the last generations). But in society, we tend to see the final line. I taught at a tech college. This is a good example to discuss with students if one does not inherit enough positive cultural capital, then one has to work much harder (some say, smarter...) unless social policy can fix some of these taken for granted mischievous conditions played out in human life. So, sociology may end up being the advisor of "social policy".

Krystal Xena LC Huang
Each social class carries different accumulated merits from family conditions. A has the most "Positive" capitals (not just wealth, property...etc, but including invisible family climate, family culture.... (See the above flower-like pic.) Let me look for a small article I wrote a while ago.

Bradley Pliam
I think I now understand better why someone would be opposed to meritocracy. It doesn't just reward merit, it rewards the advantages of a head start that some are given and others are not. If every playing field were even and level, would meritocracy be still a disliked system?

Krystal Xena LC Huang
Fount it. https://ci8395.blogspot.com/2019/06/june-15-sa-2019-classic-video-is.html

Krystal Xena LC Huang
Most people believe the myth of Meritocracy, which in fact, is tightly connected with the INVISIBLE social class. It is kind of a social taboo for common people to talk about "Class". In the US, we believe here is quite a "classless" society to avoid the "trap" of Communism's "Class Struggle" haha...

Krystal Xena LC Huang
If the playing field is leveled regardless of class, race, gender, disability, sexuality, and the rest of diverse conditions, then the rewards are based on ability and efforts. It is a fair game!

Bradley Pliam
Would it be intelligent or more fact-based to talk about trade-offs of a meritocracy? Here... I want to summarize a chapter of something I'm writing... it advocates caution about trying to level every playing field: Basically 1) Authoritarianism can deal with urgent problems very effectively. 2) If there are existential threats to humanity, we may conceivably not have enough time to let volunteerism and federation grow and self-assemble to meet those challenges. 3) there fore, until current existential threats are dealt with, we may need a certain amount of structure and totalitarianism (in the form of corporations that have top down authority... as well as weight and leverage in the market) to be part of the solution to deal with these important threats...along with government incentives and measures

Bradley Pliam
Of course, once those existential threats are dealt with (probably even before that time) we can then resume the business of achieving a more fair and just society

Krystal Xena LC Huang
Very good points. That why some people embrace "Free Market", "winner takes all: - supporting Social Darwinism for the stronger and strongest to thrive. In some cases, it sounds good economic strategy to flourish. On the other hand, human society …

Krystal Xena LC Huang
Then it turns into Moral, and "Justice" issue. Human beings in the long run, cannot escape Moral judgment and it is a sticky issue again.

Bradley Pliam
Agreed. It makes more sense to exist and survive if we are a society of people who treat others in society with dignity and respect!

Krystal Xena LC Huang
Authoritarianism and Totalitarianism, somewhat deviate from the humanism. They are expedient and effective in rendering crises as we see now, compared the US. to China-CCP. We also see several renowned writers/scholars, Orwell, Huxley, Marcuse, even Plato did not take optimistic views on human nature and future.

Krystal Xena LC Huang
By the way, I read reports regarding the highly in-demand facial masks. Whistle-blowers informed the Taiwan government that many low-quality, ineffective facial masks tagged with Made-In-Taiwan, in fact, were faked from THIS big country.
Consumers, be aware!!!
