The myth of meritocracy and the hidden inter-generational pushing-up and dragging-down social mobility seemed revealed in the following article of the Business Insider:

Crystal Huang Are these proper prototypes for the inter-playing between individuals and social forces of the above 5 Accidentally born into conditions -
(1) the lucky- privileged: the luxurious/elite class
(2) the inheritance consumers: the casual/leisure mass
(3) the rising sun/son: the climber
(4) the resilient die-hard: the vital backbone
(5) the system's target: welfare program's clienteles??

Crystal Huang The following picture was from Unworthy, shared by George E Mills Jr. It is structurally ingrained problem, not much about individual conditions, charity, philanthropy, or scratching the tip of iceberg's commotion. Let's begin with Vatican's structure !

Crystal Huang Anyone would like to tell the story one more time !? During the happy holidays, we all miss Jesus a lot ! But I do appreciate "authentic" entrepreneurs, if existing, and would like to be one !

Marcie Bakker I learn so much from reading your 'shares' and posts and poems. Thank you, My Friend.

Crystal Huang There is a weird Exceptionalism to justify such a gap- Americans' sense of opportunity inequality suppressing the reality of income- inequality? The myth of meritocracy confounds this reality - people deserve what they get (an interesting yet fallacious psychological state - the Just World Phenomenon)??? But How and Why one deserves - "none of your business"? unless your Lobbyists have mightier voices than mine ! Picture from being liberal, shared by George E Mills Jr. Thanks.

Crystal Huang Now, back to the beginning of my post: among the 6 major social institutions, marriage/family is the most POWERFUL one, if not the most influential hidden business throughout human history (George Hermen's Social Exchange Theory might sound so unromantic!) - for better/best and the worse/worst, watch out the sweet/bitter trap- youngsters ! Those who know how to control marriage/family, dominate, via playing the cards of endogamy or sometimes, exogamy, and then, one of the severe consequences is to perpetuate the social inequality.
Crystal Huang @Marcie, I learn a lot from your posts as well. Good night !

Crystal Huang In short, the above article (hidden in the thread) is more from an economic perspective, focusing on Income Mobility between generations. Relating to Sociology (e,g., social stratification), Max Weber added up Status and Power to Marx's income/wealth dimension which differentiated the haves and haves-not. Indeed, Socio-economic status is much determined by the earning/purchasing power which in terms, discerned by one's education and occupation - a very much intergenerational business - a child's future success or not , the father/parents' education and career is a highly correlated indicator. Rodney Dukes I think perception plays a huge part in how we see the world and the expectations that we accept about it. It is my belief that what we the masses are told about our place in society and our ability to be upwardly mobile is a lie. We are taught from an early age to consume. We cannot "have" these things we are taught to want without willingly surrendering the wealth that we may need for tomorrow, today. We think we are a free being with free will and an equal right to choose, but in reality (my perception) we are slaves borne and bred to work and generate money for the elite. If we can find enjoyment, pleasure, solace from time to time, fine, but I need you back at work early on Monday. School, marriage, a home, taxes, children, cars, credit, and education for your offspring are all pulls on your ability to earn and save. However, the system is rigged to keep the disadvantaged from playing this game well, or rising in class. This is all a big game. If your parents did not know the rules to teach you and you do not know that you are a pawn, you can only moved within a predictable pattern. The American Dream is just that, a dream.

Crystal Huang @Rodney, Ha, this is a plain/vernacular type of Facebook Sociology ! I quite enjoy it (totally different from the classroom or the online format).
Be a (4) resilient die-hard when individual's efforts + social policies don't work? ( a simple categorization of the major 4 types - just added one more, embedded in the thread. There are many shades, though...).
Luckily enough, America was built LESS in the caste-like fashion (except B&W, W&R, Elite&NonElite...) than anyplace in the world - still attractive to all types of immigrants (the rich and the poor=> I used to think that the poor run all sorts of risks and suffering to immigrate for a better life chance, but seemingly, not anymore, the rich come to occupy USA??!!) to infuse all sorts of vitality to keep America forever YOUNG and the dream of the fantasyland alive !
Are these proper prototypes for the inter-playing between individuals and social forces of the above 4 => 5 conditions -
(1) the lucky- privileged: the luxurious/elite class
(2) the inheritance consumers: the casual/leisure mass
(3) the rising sun/son: the climber
(4) the resilient die-hard: the vital backbone
(5) the system's target: welfare program's clienteles??
...Which are Corresponding to the following situations (I just added one more category - 5 instead of 4)-
What happens when one is Accidentally born into
(1) an environment with rich cultural capitals + a responsible/caring father
+ one's efforts/talents,
(2) an environment with rich cultural capitals + a responsible/caring father
+ one's lack of efforts/talents,
(3) a dysfunctional environment with negative cultural capitals
+ a responsible/caring father + one's efforts/talents,
(4) a dysfunctional environment with negative cultural capitals
+ an irresponsible father + one's efforts/talents
(5) a dysfunctional environment with negative cultural capitals
+ an irresponsible father + one's lack of efforts/talents???

Rodney Dukes A part of my response is my belief that the "caste" system is hidden in America. This keeps the myth alive and a continuous flow us immigrants coming here to take their shot at the dream.
2 hours ago via mobile · Unlike · 1
Crystal Huang @ Rodney, indeed, without these newly infusing blood into the mainstream (either high-end or low-end), the American dream of fantasyland would have been fading away??? Yep, the gender-caste does blur a little bit faster than the racial caste in America (except a Female Commander-In-Chief ! )
